The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) works towards the vision of an economically dynamic, politically stable, intellectually vibrant and culturally tolerant Tajikistan. Operating in Tajikistan since 1992, the Network draws on a strong base of experience in working with mountain societies. It works in all regions of the country and employs over 3,500 people through its operations and investments. The AKDN supports the establishment of programmes and institutions that allow the Government, private sector and civil society to play complementary roles in increasing prosperity and creativity within a pluralistic society.

The University of Central Asia provides formal, university-based, non-degree educational programmes. Since 2006, it has engaged over 103,000 youth and adults in vocational and professional development courses.

Since it was founded, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture has restored and rehabilitated over 350 monuments and historic sites. It has also received 13 UNESCO heritage awards for excellence in restoration.

More than 400,000 villagers living in disaster-prone areas of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan benefit from hazard vulnerability and risk assessments undertaken by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat.
