University of Central Asia

The Civil Society Initiative (CSI) of the University of Central Asia (UCA) has launched a six-month online training programme to build a community of women practitioners who can share knowledge, experiences and practices in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 40 representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) from Kyrgyzstan are attending this online training, which was launched on 2 September 2020.

Aga Khan Agency for Habitat

All development programmes are designed to contribute to peace and stability in one way or another, but the Aga Khan Foundation’s (AKF) Critical Infrastructure to Contribute to Stability and Peace in Khorog (IcSP) programme focuses on improving public infrastructure and services. In the process, it hopes to strengthen confidence among inhabitants in local authorities while generating temporary employment opportunities through construction work.

Aga Khan Academies

Following in the footsteps of previous cohorts, the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa’s Class of 2020 received record-breaking results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme this year. In addition to the Academy once again scoring highly, the percentage of top scorers was also above the global average – with nine students scoring an outstanding 40 points and above. Of these, two students Muskaan Baidhani and Alisha Doshi scored an impressive 44 points out of a possible 45.

The Resilient Khorog Steering Committee had its first meeting in mid-September 2020, bringing together Government planning and investments with initiatives by the community, the private sector, AKDN institutions and international partners. The programme is designed to set up the structures, systems and capacity to transform Khorog into a model resilient city that is a place for sustainable economic growth and investment and that has a dynamic urban planning environment.

Aga Khan Agency for Habitat

A devastating flash flood hit Charikar City of Parwan Province, Afghanistan at 2:00 pm on 25 August 2020, killing 130 people and injuring 140 more, mostly women and children. The flood also destroyed 500 homes. Even though the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat does not currently work in Parwan province, AKAH deployed its Search and Rescue Team (SARTs) to the affected area the same day.
