In Upper Egypt, where women have little access to resources or opportunity to work outside the home, the Om Habibeh Foundation – a part of the Aga Khan Foundation – runs a kitchen garden intervention that enables women to grow their food at home, which can significantly improve nutrition for the family, save money and even generate an income from the sale of surplus products.

 

It is not easy for an external emergency response team to reach remote villages in northern Afghanistan – a region prone to multiple hazards – so the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat has taught villagers to be self-reliant, training them in emergency response and disaster preparedness procedures to reduce causalities and ensure greater safety and resilience.
