In remote villages of Afghanistan, young mothers who were unable to receive an academic education, instead taking on traditional duties such as homemaking and manual labour, became literate through weekly language and mathematics sessions offered by the Aga Khan Education Service’s early childhood development centres.

In the Pamir mountains in Tajikistan, the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat is working to help communities to protect snow leopards instead of retaliating against these endangered animals for attacking livestock.
