From wasteland to environment protection marvel: Sharjah’s Wasit Wetland Centre makes history

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment Protection Areas Authority (EPAA) received the award from His Highness. Wasit Wetland Centre was one of six projects to win the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture chosen out of 380 projects. It is one of the world’s most prestigious awards for architecture with a prize money of $1 million to be equally shared amongst the winners. Speaking to Gulf News, Hana Saif Al Suwaid said that Wasit Wetland Centre was not only a beautiful place that added aesthetic environmental and tourism-related values; but was a place to learn and educate our community especially the younger generations. "We are delighted to have won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture as it is a well-deserved win for Wasit Wetland Centre", she said.
