Since it was launched in 1977, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture has occupied a pivotal position in understanding, studying and developing the architecture in the Islamic world, and presenting its achievements in the world. Over the course of fourteen cycles, hundreds of projects were nominated, evaluated, distributed and celebrated, while the best projects were chosen to receive the award. Eventually, the architecture sector, which was totally neglected in the contemporary architectural thought, was converted into a recognised and inevitable contributor to the study of contemporary world of architecture.
