The Aga Khan Medical and Diagnostic Centre in Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic is equipped with a general x-ray, Doppler ultrasound, ECG services, gastro-endoscopy services and offers full laboratory services including biochemistry, pathology and haematology tests. A well-equipped and well-stocked high quality pharmacy is available to accommodate to the patient’s needs. And all of this is only possible with the highly qualified and experienced staff that work at the Centre.

The Aga Khan Health Services supported Family Medicine Centre in Zaninz, Tajikistan, contributes to AKDN's objective of supporting the health sector in Tajikistan, by working towards a sustainable improvement in the health status of the community, with a particular focus on the health status of children under five years of age, women of reproductive age, the disadvantaged and the geographically remote. On World Health Day we pay tribute to the staff at this Centre for all the amazing work they do.

Mary Musoke, Founder of Mama Maria Clinic Kagoma, Uganda, was an established midwife when she enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at AKU-SONAM in Uganda. “After my graduation in 2005, I was elected President of the Private Midwives Association, where I have served for two terms.” She is one of thousands of midwives trained by the AKDN - on World Health Day, we thank them for their dedicated services.

Aga Khan Medical Centre, Khorog, Tajikistan - eHealth facilities which allow Tajik doctors to provide consultations for Afghan doctors and patients on the other side of the border saving the patients the time and expense of travelling the long distance to Faizabad Hospital. The Aga Khan Development Network uses eHealth to improve access to, and the quality of, healthcare by overcoming the barriers of distance and time. eHealth brings together providers based at separate institutions to offer coordinated care to clients, and provides health professionals working in remote facilities with access to continuing professional development (CPD) and training. On World Health Day 2020, we pay tribute to all the doctors who provide such valuable service to patients across the world.

Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) East Africa graduate Ramla Vuai Khamis assists surgeons at the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar, Tanzania. SONAM, a unit of the Aga Khan University, established its nursing and midwifery programmes in East Africa in 2001. Its primary goal was to provide high-quality training to working nurses and midwives through curricula steeped in the development of leadership, critical thinking and service innovation.
