Spirit & Life, an exhibition of rare Islamic art and manuscripts.Spirit & Life, an exhibition of rare Islamic art and manuscripts.A number of cultural events have been staged at UK venues, including Spirit & Life, an exhibition of rare Islamic art and manuscripts never before displayed in the UK, which ran from 14 July to 31 August 2007 at the Ismaili Centre, South Kensington, London. Organised by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Spirit & Life presented treasures from the permanent collection of the Aga Khan Museum, which will open in Toronto, Canada, in 2011. The Museum, an initiative of His Highness the Aga Khan, is dedicated to the presentation of Muslim arts and culture in all their historic, cultural and geographical diversity.

In 2004, the Aga Khan Music Initiative in Central Asia brought 40 leading musicians and dancers from Central Asia to the English National Opera in London. The tour, which also travelled to continental Europe, included musicians from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. As part of its Voices series, it was one of the first times that voices not part of Western operatic tradition were heard at the English National Opera. These voices played to a packed house and excellent reviews in a number of leading UK papers. Future collaborations will include concerts at the Barbican and other cultural venues in the UK.
