The French Government, the Afghan Government and the Aga Khan Sign a Letter of Intent on Medical Projects in Afghanistan

12 June 2008 - His Highness the Aga Khan today joined over 65 countries and more than a dozen international organizations at a conference in support of Afghanistan. President Sarkozy of France, President Karzai of Afghanistan and the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr Ban Ki-Moon opened the conference. In his speech to the delegation, the Aga Khan confirmed that the Aga Khan Development Network would be making a $100m engagement over the next five years to support Afghanistan. Later, the Aga Khan together with French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, Afghan Foreign Minister, Rangin Dadfar Spanta and the Director of the French Development Agency, Jean-Michel Severino signed a letter of intent to further develop and train medical and paramedic personnel for the French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) in Kabul.
