On 18 October, His Highness the Aga Khan met with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres in New York. During the evening, he received the United Nations Foundation's Global Leadership Award at the UN gala dinner for his work in developing and improving the living conditions of populations from the four corners of the world.
On 18 October at the 2017 United Nations Global Leadership Dinner in New York (USA), His Highness the Aga Khan received the Champion for Global Change Award handed over by Kofi Annan, for his leadership in global health, education, and the refugee crisis through the Aga Khan Development Network, as well his extensive work with the United Nations. His Highness the Aga Khan said: "It is with all of these thoughts in mind that I say again how proud I am to be here to accept your award - recognizing how it reinforces not only the important “words” but also the useful concepts, and indeed the central “values”- that we - all of us - hold in common."
On 12 October, the district administration in collaboration with the University of Chitral and the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat organised an event in Chitral (Pakistan) to mark the National Disaster Day and to promote awareness among the people about natural and man-made disasters and to minimise the damages in a calamity.
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) has made one of its goals to help farmers to learn how to sustainably produce more of better quality and be competitive in the agriculture market. Since 2009, AKF has impacted over 100,000 farmers in Lindi and Mtwara regions (Tanzania) through a systems approach, facilitating access to quality inputs, information on good agricultural practices, and market linkages. This has contributed to increased yield, income, savings, food security and growth of micro and small agri-businesses by local entrepreneurs, including women and youth.
Prince Aly Muhammad arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan, a region of Pakistan, on 10 October. During his stay in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, Prince Aly Muhammad, is expected to visit various AKDN projects in the Ghizer and Hunza districts such as a health centre operated by the Aga Khan Health Services, and a school run by the Aga Khan Education Services in Yasin Valley of District Ghizer. The visit will enhance Prince Aly Muhammad's understanding of issues related to the built environment, natural hazard mitigation, health, education, culture, and rural development.
