Aga Khan Urges Innovative Approaches to Maternal and Child Care, Praises Canada’s Leadership
29 May 2014 - His Highness the Aga Khan today praised Canada’s global leadership in efforts to improve maternal, neonatal and child health and stressed the importance of innovative and community-based approaches in meeting the challenge which he described as “one of the highest priorities on the global development agenda.”

22 June 2012 - Serena Hotels receives the 2012 African Business Award in the “Best Hospitality, Travel and Tourism in Africa” category. Serena Hotels was recognized for “branding its country or region as an attractive tourism destination in Africa, ultimately benefitting the African tourism industry and the continent as a whole”.

Mozambique’s Historic Polana Serena Hotel Restored
16 December 2010 - Mozambique’s Presdient Armando Guebuza and His Highness the Aga Khan inaugurated the refurbishment of the Serena Polana Hotel to its former glory. The Polana, long-considered the "Grande Dame" of Maputo, underwent a multi-year refurbishment. "World-class travel facilities can be crucial components of what we call ‘an enabling environment,’ a setting in which additional development initiatives can take root and thrive," said the Aga Khan.

Brazil and the Ismaili Imamat sign Protocol to support development activities
10 November 2010 - The Federative Republic of Brazil and the Ismaili Imamat - the office of the Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims – today signed a Protocol of Intentions to support development activities as part of their joint efforts to support the fight against poverty, during the official two-day visit of President of Brazil Lula da Silva to Mozambique.
