Aga Khan Development Network: Government of The Republic of Portugal and The Ismaili Imamat Sign Protocol of Cooperation

Lisbon, Portugal, 19 December 2005 - The Government of Portugal and the Ismaili Imamat today signed a Protocol of Cooperation signalling their common intent to work toward the improvement of the quality of life of vulnerable populations in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries of Asia and Africa.

	His Highness the Aga Khan is welcomed at Lisbon’s Military airport by Portugal's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Professor Freitas do Amaral and other dignitaries.


	His Highness arrives for a meeting with the Prime Minister Jose Socrates, at the Prime Minister’s Palace.


	His Highness the Aga Khan and Prime Minister José Socrates in discussion.


	His Highness meets with the President of the Republic of Portugal, Mr. Jorge Sampaio, at the Presidential Palace.


	The Aga Khan and the Prime Minister José Socrates sign the Protocol of Cooperation between the Ismaili Imamat and the Government of the Republic of Portugal.
