Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 1 December 2011 - His Highness the Aga Khan travelled to Bishkek for the inauguration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Almazbek Atambaev. During the visit the Aga Khan met President Atambaev as well as former President Roza Otunbaeva to discuss AKDN’s current and future partnerships with the Kyrgyz Republic. The Aga Khan also met with Speaker Ahmatbek Keldibekov.

Since its establishment in 2005, the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM) has taken over 25 years of microfinance activities, programmes and banks that were administered by sister agencies within the AKDN. The underlying objectives of the Agency are to reduce poverty, diminish the vulnerability of poor populations and alleviate economic and social exclusion. more
