AKTC Receives 2011 UNESCO Award for Culture Heritage Conservation
Bangkok, 02/09/2011 - The restoration of Altit Fort in Hunza, in Pakistan Gilgit-Baltistan province, an Aga Khan Trust for Culture project undertaken by the Aga Khan Cultural Service, has received an Award of Distinction at the 2011 UNESCO Asian-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

| Because Altit residents were abandoning the traditional houses and constructing new houses on valuable arable land, the restoration of the village proceeded before restoration of the fort.
