Find out more on the Aga Khan Academy, Maputo

Maputo, Mozambique, 16/12/2010 - During his recent visit to Maputo, Mozambique, His Highness the Aga Khan toured the Aga Khan Academy’s Professional Development Centre (PDC). In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, an approach to whole school improvement has been developed, including the training of teachers and head teachers aimed at improving teaching and learning in the schools in Matola district surrounding the Academy site. To date, school leadership and English teaching programmes have been carried out in 14 primary schools in Matola – potentially benefiting over 4,000 students.

Later he visited the Moztex garment factory which began operations last year. When the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development first acquired the dilapidated textile factory, it had several goals; to rehabilitate the building, provide employment, particularly to women, to train and develop local skills and to contribute to the country’s economic development. Today, the revived factory – Moztex is a pioneering ready to wear garment manufacturing industry, employs some 600 women, trained in new skills in house, exporting quality products from Mozambique. As with all projects of the Aga Khan Development Network, it aspires to portray excellence in every respect.
