Austin, Texas, 30 October 2009 - Governor Rick Perry of Texas and His Highness the Aga Khan signed a historic agreement in Austin on 30 October 2009, to expand collaboration in the areas of education, health sciences, natural disaster preparedness and recovery, culture and the environment.

Since its establishment in 2005, the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM) has taken over 25 years of microfinance activities, programmes and banks that were administered by sister agencies within the AKDN.
