For more than 60 years, various agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) have offered microfinance services through integrated development programmes and self-standing microfinance institutions. Today, these programmes have been brought together under the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM).

The First MicrofinanceBank Tajikistan is one of the largest providers of financial services in the country, servicing around 20,000 clients with a loan portfolio exceeding $50 million.

AKDN offers a range of financial services from community-based savings groups to corporate banking to life insurance. These services are used by 17 million people each year.
AKDN has mobilised over $1 billion to support a number of institutions and programmes involved in the social, economic and cultural development of Afghanistan.
