Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic, 21 August 2017 - As part of the on-going collaboration between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) to improve the quality of life in Naryn Oblast, the University of Central Asia (UCA) hosted the International Investment Forum “Naryn – A Transnational Economic Hub on the Great Silk Road”.
More than 100 participants from Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Belarus and Japan attended the Investment Forum, which was organised by the Naryn Oblast Administration and convened at UCA's School of Professional and Continuing Education in Naryn.
During the official proceedings of the Forum, Dr Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, AKDN Diplomatic Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UCA, spoke about how AKDN’s investments in UCA have served to catalyse economic development, create employment and provide individuals with skills to increase their economic livelihoods.
“We are delighted to see diverse development partners, who like the AKDN, regard Naryn as having immense opportunity and potential to further become a hub for economic revitalisation, tourism and higher education,” noted Dr Kassim-Lakha when welcoming participants who toured the UCA residential campus in Naryn, a purpose-built academic and residential complex which welcomed its first cohort of undergraduate students in September 2016. “The AKDN extends its sincere appreciation to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, including the Naryn Oblast Administration and Municipality for continuous cooperation and collaboration as part of collective efforts to improve the quality of life for all peoples of the Kyrgyz Republic.”
