Aga Khan Music Initiative in Central Asia

2006 European Tour*

The inaugural 2006 European tour presents masters of the region’s traditional music as well as performers who are revitalising the art form through new approaches to performance style, repertory, and technique. The concert also celebrates the European launch of the first three volumes of a ten-part Smithsonian Folkways CD and DVD anthology of Central Asian music.

Etape à Samarcande: Several groups from Central Asia will offer a spectrum of music and traditions from Central Asia. Groups will include: Tengir-Too (music from Kyrgyzstan), Mohi-Sitora (toy from Boukhara), Sahiba Davlatshaeva and Aqnazar Alovatov (traditions of Badkhashan), and musicians from AKMICA's school for bards in Kazakhstan.
