Spirit & Life, Masterpieces of Islamic Art from the Aga Khan Museum

Spirit & Life, an exhibition of rare Islamic art and manuscripts never before displayed in the UK, ran from 14 July to 31 August at the The Ismaili Centre, South Kensington, London. Many of the objects and manuscripts appeared in subsequent exhibitions, including one at the Louvre entitled: Chefs-d’œuvre islamiques de l’Aga Khan Museum (Masterpieces of Islamic Art from the Aga Khan Museum at the Louvre).

Organised by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Spirit & Life presented treasures from the permanent collection of the Aga Khan Museum, which will open in Toronto, Canada, in 2011. The museum, an initiative of His Highness the Aga Khan, (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, is dedicated to the presentation of Muslim arts and culture in all their historic, cultural and geographical diversity.
