Excellency Emomali Rahmonov, President of Tajikistan),
and His Highness the Aga Khan sign the International
Treaty establishing the new University of Central
Asia in a ceremony in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on
28 August 2000. The University is based on the
recommendations of an Organisational Commission
appointed by President Rahmonov and the Aga Khan
in 1997. The main campus of the new university
will be based in the town of Khorog in Southern
Tajikistan. At the signing ceremony, His Highness
announced a gift of $5 million to the University's
endowment earmarked for activities in Tajikistan. |
