Today, FOCUS units are located in six countries: Afghanistan, Canada, India, Pakistan, Europe (headquartered in the United Kingdom) and the United States. These offices serve as the primary implementers of FOCUS programs in different regions throughout the world. It also has additional field offices in Tajikistan. Each FOCUS Unit is incorporated as a registered charity or non-profit organisation in its respective country, and is governed by a Board of Directors.
FOCUS aims to provide disaster mitigation and preparedness programme in vulnerable communities. It also extends humanitarian relief and recovery following natural or man disasters.
FOCUS’ ethical framework is based on that of its affiliate organisation, the Aga Khan Development Network. FOCUS’ efforts in humanitarian assistance represent an application of the social conscience of Islam and, in particular, the ethical values of compassion, care and concern for the poor and weak and the protection of the vulnerable in society. FOCUS also conforms to the Code of Conduct of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
