The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) is active in the DRC through its Industrial Promotion Services (Congo) sarl, an economic development institution based in Kinshasha. AKFED focuses on building sound enterprises in parts of the world that lack sufficient foreign direct investment and makes bold but calculated investments in situations that are fragile and complex. With a network of more than 90 separate project companies employing over 30,000 people, its annual revenues are in excess of US$1.5 billion.

In DRC, it manufactures a variety of essential goods through five project companies.

• Sotral sprl, Likasi, Manufacture of aluminium and copper household goods
