In Burkina Faso, AKDN activities cover social, economic and cultural development. In addition to several economic development projects ranging from aviation to agricultural extension services -- investments which have made AKDN one of the largest employers in the country -- the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance launched the First Microfinance Agency (Première Agence de Microfinance (PAMF) in Ouagadougou in 2005. Cultural activities include a recent seminar highlighting two recent Burkinabé recipients of the Aga Khan Award of Architecture.
