Strategies for Development and Food Security in Mountainous Areas of Central AsiaIn the interest of promoting economic development in Central Asia and encouraging greater integration of mountainous areas in the region, an international workshop on “Strategies for Development and Food Security in Mountainous Areas of Central Asia” was held 6-10 June 2005 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It was sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation, Capacity Building International, Germany (InWEnt), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH.
A central aim was to provide the people from the four principal countries - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic - with a forum to discuss common solutions to their problems and seek new ways to collaborate and communicate in pursuit of similar development goals.
