Ambulatory
Care Centres
In
order to enhance access to the general and special clinical
services of the University Hospital in Karachi, AKUH is
in the process of establishing offsite medical services/ambulatory
care centres in Clifton, Shahra-e-Faisal and M. A Jinnah
Road. These units will be components of a system of health
care for which the University Hospital will be the centre
of reference. The Hospital's objective is to provide high-quality
care that is convenient and easily accessible to larger
populations that reside in areas distant from the main campus
on Stadium Road.
AKUH's
Clinical Laboratory has become a national referral service
for hospitals, clinicians and other laboratories. It is
also a reference centre for AKDN's health units in Pakistan
and East Africa. The Hospital's community outreach programme
is served through Laboratory
Collection Units in 18 cities of Pakistan. Accordingly,
access to laboratory services has been facilitated by collection
points for tests in various parts of Karachi and other cities
listed in the table.
Facilities for Nuclear Medicine have started in the Department
of Radiology. These ensure a full range of diagnostic
services in AKUH that equate the status of this service
to hospitals in the west. This state-of-the-art facility
complement the broad range of imaging modalities currently
available in the department for the support of diagnosis
and intervention for complex clinical status.
The Sports
and Rehabilitation Centre considerably enhances the
Hospital's capacity for rehabilitation, enabling recovery
of functions following Orthopaedic,
Cardiac
and Neurological
injury and illness.
