In Afghanistan, programmes of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) include large-scale rural development; health, education and civil society programmes; microfinance services; the rehabilitation of historic neighbourhoods in Kabul and Herat; a rapidly growing mobile phone network; and the renovation of a five-star hotel in Kabul.With the support of its donors and partners, more than US$700 million has been channelled through the AKDN for Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

In Afghanistan, AKDN is a facilitating partner of the Government’s National Solidarity Programme (NSP). Under the NSP, AKDN assists villages in establishing village-based Community Development Councils, electing an accountable and transparent Council leadership, formulating village development plans, and prioritising village needs. Tajikistan, Afghanistan and AKDN Lay Foundation Stone for Fifth Bridge Between Countries
31 October 2011 - President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, Afghan Minister of Public Works Abdulkudus Hamidi and His Highness the Aga Khan laid the foundation stone for the Shurobod Bridge. The bridge will connect the Shurobod District of Khatlon Region in Tajikistan with the Khohon Province of Afghanistan.
